Marilyn Manson.

The Long Hard Road Out Of Hell. It's a Marilyn Manson's autobiography.Actually, I'm not a big fan of this guy anymore. On the other day, I just ran into this book and bought it. Actually, I really enjoyed it. It was pretty good, much better than the one on Ozzy Osbourne I think.

And Here's my short essay on the book.

Who was the blame for turning children into monsters? All the experts have the answers. Some say music or video games. Some say parents. Some experts even say Marilyn Manson is the sickest group that ever promoted by the mainstream and the one to blame.

Marilyn Manson is a well-known American rock band, and also the name of its singer. They are very famous all over the world. This group often gets picked by some religious groups or even from parents all over the U.S. because of their extreme physical appearance and behavior. The reason why religious groups do not like him is that he once made an album called “Anti-Christ Superstar”, which was unacceptable to most of the religious groups in the U.S. Some people even say that the only thing Marilyn Manson promotes through his music is violence and drug use. When exactly did Brain Warner turn himself into Marilyn Manson? And what is his message?

On January 5, 1969, Brian Warner, also known as Marilyn Manson, was born in Ohio. Just like many of us wanted when we were kids, he also wanted to become a detective, spy or private investigator when he grew up. He was just an ordinary teenage kid. The things that turned him into who he is were people around him and education.

He was the only child in his family. So he used to hang out with his cousin, Chad at their grandfather’s house, sneaking into their grandfather’s cellar. Their grandfather, Jack Warner was an abnormal guy. He had some sexual fetishism such as bestiality and sadomasochism. Eventually, Brian and Chad saw their grandfather doing something they should not witness there. He also spent time with his neighbor, Mark. They were at same age. Something happened here, too. This kid, Mark tried to rape Brain. Brian ran away and told his parents about it. So, they told Mark’s parents what happened, which they didn’t believe. Mark killed Brain’s puppy in revenge for Brain telling his parents about it. Even at this time, he had too much abnormal experiences compared to anyone. These incidents surely influenced him to become what he is now.

Then, he went to Christian school where he says he got brainwashed. The school had seminars in every Friday and they told students the end of the world was coming and they had to prepare for that by praying to God, otherwise, they would go to hell. Basically, what they did was forcing a teenage kid to believe in the God who they thought was a God. As a result, he, as a teenager, suffered from a nightmare for several years. They also taught him how rock music was bad influential and wrong. They punished students who listened to this kind of music, even though he considered music as the only escape from the life he suffered from. After all of these things, he quit the school and started going to public school instead. I believe that at this point, he created the social image, Marilyn Manson.

After graduating from high school, his family moved to Florida. He began to work as a journalist. He was not a dumb kid. So it was natural because he was really into Stephen king and took several writing classes at high school. Working as a writer, he interviewed some musicians, especially from a genre, so-called heavy metal. This experience gave him a thought that he could play music just like them. So, he did.

On April 20, 1999, there was a massacre by two high school kids, killing 13 people including students. The blame was directed at Marilyn Manson. The reason was that the two criminal liked his music and they dressed like him. However, it turns out that they were not a fan of Marilyn Manson and they were just wearing black jackets and pants. He actually had nothing to do with this tragedy. It’s a good example of people seeing Marilyn Manson as a promoter of evil without considering if it’s true or not.

Not just the environment he had to live with when he was a kid, but also the frustration and fear he felt when he was in the Christian school, totally changed himself dramatically. He once said. “Find out what’s really out there. I never said to be like me, I say to be like you and make a difference” and “I’ve always believed that a person is smart. It’s people that are stupid”. These quotes really represent him, I think. If you do not try to figure out what is the society you live in or the people who lead it, you just become one of the people, as Manson said. That’s why we have to struggle to find out who we really are, not like trying to be someone else. It is just that the way he conveys his message sometimes gets people’s attentions since he is different from others.
